Legendary Australian batsman Ricky Ponting looks pretty hungry to watch Babar Azam batting in testing conditions. The former captain claimed that we hadn’t seen the best of Babar Azam yet.

Babar Azam Is Very, Very Classy Player: Ricky Ponting

Talking about Babar Azam’s career, Ricky Ponting said, “Twenty-odd Tests for an average of 35 – he’s better than that. He averages 54 in one-day cricket at a strike-rate of about 90. He’s a very, very classy player. He is a fascinating talent and probably the guy I’m looking forward to seeing the most this summer.”

Babar Azam, on his last trip to Australia, struggled in Test series particularly. The veteran could only manage to score 68 runs at a miserable average of 11.3. Ponting argued Pakistan to utilize Babar in a better way in the longer format.

Regarding his batting position, the Aussie skipper replied, “What they’ve tried with him before obviously hasn’t worked because when you watch him bat, he’s better than a 35 average. If they can massage him and help him through a little bit, keep him away from the new ball a little bit here in Australia, then I think they’ll get the best out of him.”

Pakistan T20I skipper Babar Azam was in red-hot form against Australia in recent series. The No.1 T20I batsman scored back-to-back half-centuries in the first two T20Is. He backed it with a 157-run innings against Australia A in a 3-day practice match. Now we have to wait and watch that could the star batsman Babar Azam repeat his form in the Test series against the Aussie? Ricky Ponting certainty thinks so, do you?

The 1st Test of Australia-Pakistan series starts from November 21 at Gabba, Brisbane.
