[su_dropcap style=”simple” size=”5″]S[/su_dropcap]ri Lanka thrashed World’s No.1 T20 team, Pakistan is their backyard in the first T20I by 64 runs. Chasing 166 in 20 overs, Men in Green ended up at 101/all-out in 17.4 overs.
It was No.1 ranked side vs No. 8 Ranked team in Lahore last night. Guess what? The No.8 side thrashed the No.1 side to claim a 64-run victory to claim the first win of the tour.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I – As It Happened
Pakistan won the toss, and keeping the dew factor in mind, decided to bowl first. Danushka Gunathilaka gave a brilliant start to the visitors. At the end of the first powerplay, the islanders were 64/0. The left-handed opener completed his half-century off 32 balls. He fell to Shadab Khan after scoring 57. Avishka Fernando was never comfortable in the middle as he departed at 34 balls 33. Bhanuka Rajapaksa, the debutante, played well for his 22 balls 32. The stand-in skipper Dasun Shanaka departed after a little cameo. He scored 17 runs off just ten balls. Sri Lanka finished at a below-par 165/5 on Gaddafi Stadium Lahore’s batting paradise.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Hasnain and Mohammad Amir were superb with the ball. Hasnain became the youngest bowler to take a T20I hat-trick. Mohammad Amir, though, went wicket-less, but he was excellent with his variations. He and Imad Wasim went for 25 and 24 runs respectively.
In the chase, Pakistan never looked like getting there. In the 2nd over, they lost their crucial batsman Babar Azam and the comeback boy Umar Akmal off consecutive balls. Ahmed Shehzad, who was also making a comeback, fell for just 4.
The skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and Iftikhar Ahmed showed some resistance. Sarfraz scored 24 off 30 balls while Iftikhar Ahmed scored 25 off 24 balls. Apart from these two, no other batsman could score runs. The middle and lower order was scattered in a few overs. Asif Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Imad Wasim, and Shadab Khan were not able to show all-round performance as Pakistan ended up on 101/all-out in 17.4 overs.
For Sri Lanka, all the bowlers were exceptional with the ball, but Isuru Udana and Nuwan Pradeep led the attack. Isuru Udana picked up three wickets for just 11 runs in 2.4 overs. Nuwan Pradeep also picked up three wickets for 21 runs in three overs. Sandakan and Wanindu Hasaranga were also economical in the middle overs. They kept asking the questions from Pakistani batsmen who never felt comfortable at the crease.
Man Of The Match
Danushka Gunathilaka, for his brilliant batting, won the man of the match award. He scored 38-ball 57 with eight fours and a six. Danushka Gunathilaka also struck hundred in the 3rd ODI in Karachi. He looks in supreme touch, and that is a good sign for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka vs Pakistan 2nd T20I
Pakistan and Sri Lanka will again meet in the National Stadium Karachi on Monday for 2nd T20I. The match will start at 6:30 PM (PST). With the Islanders already 1-0 up in the series, the 2nd ODI will be a do-or-die game for the hosts. Such situations make Pakistan more dangerous. Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has indicated a strong comeback in the next game.
