Sri Lanka Cricket Team who recently played Three T20Is and as much ODIs in Pakistan is set to play test cricket as well. According to Geo News, Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has confirmed to tour Pakistan for the test series after the successful visit for limited-overs series.

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had invited Sri Lanka to play two-match Test series in Pakistan. Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), in response, turned to Pakistan to play ODI and T20I series. After some hesitation, Sri Lankan team arrived in Karachi for ODI series. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) successfully held ODI and T20I series with the help of the Government and the security agencies. Sri Lankan players and officials expressed their experience in of touring Pakistan in soft words which forced their board to think about visiting Pakistan for test series as well.

International cricket was dried out in the country after the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan team back in 2009. The Islanders were in Lahore for test series when they received fire from militants while travelling to the stadium. Many players and officials were injured during that unfortunate incident.

In 2015, Zimbabwe became the first international team to travel Pakistan after that incident. West Indies, ICC World XI and Sri Lanka followed them by touring Pakistan for the limited-overs series. However, no international team agreed to play test cricket in Pakistan.

Now, after a long and determined struggle by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Pakistani Government, Sri Lanka has responded positively to the call of playing test cricket in Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed Karachi and Rawalpindi as the hosting cities for Sri Lanka test side. Lahore is, according to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), out of the equation due to its weather forecast in December which has never been suitable for cricket in that particular month.

Former Players Ask Sri Lanka To Revive Test Cricket In Pakistan

SLC has officially confirmed the tour. 1st test will be played in Rawalpindi from December 11-15 while 2nd test will be played in Karachi from December 19-23.

Remember that ten Sri Lankan cricketers didn’t travel with the team over security concerns when they toured Pakistan for the limited-overs series last month. 

Earlier Sri Lanka asked Pakistan to host the test series in United Arab Emirates (UAE) because most of their senior players didn’t want to travel Pakistan. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) resisted to host the test series in home and for the sack of this purpose, they postponed the series to December.

The series will be the part of ICC Test Championship 2019-21, that is why both the sides are not taking it lightly.

Former Sri Lankan cricketers Kumar Sangakara and Arjuna Ranatunga had raised their hands and asked Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) and players to help Pakistan out during this tough period as Pakistan did by touring Pakistan in the late eighties when nobody was willing to travel Sri Lanka bearing security concerns.

it will be the first test series in Pakistan in more than a decade.
