Sri Lanka came in as underdogs. They lost the ODI series 2-0 but, they bounced back in the 2nd T20I, and crushed the No.1 T20 side, Pakistan, in the first two T20Is. With this win, Sri Lanka has registered its first-ever T20I series win against Pakistan.
With the final game of the tour yet to be played, Sri Lanka has taken an inaccessible lead of 2-0. They won the first T20I by 64 runs and the 2nd T20I by 35 runs.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I – As It Happened
Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss in the 2nd T20I, and unlike Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, he decided to bat first. Pakistan started well with the bowl to get in-form Danushka Gunathilaka out early. But, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shehan Jayasuriya batted beautifully. The pair put on 96 runs for the sixth wicket.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa (77) and Shehan Jayasuriya (34) were the highest run-scorers for the Sri Lankan side. Captain Dasun Shanaka provided the finishing touches with his 15 balls 27. Sri Lanka ended up on 182/7 in 20 overs.
For Pakistan, Imad Wasim was once again fantastic with the ball. He bowled his four overs for 27 runs and picked up the vital wicket of Danushka Gunathilaka. Wahab Riaz and Shadab Khan also picked up one scalp each. Mohammad Amir and hat-trick taker from the last match, Mohammad Hasnain, went wicketless. They were expensive too as they leaked 40 and 39 runs in their four overs quota, respectively.
The same old script came back to the Pakistan dressing room while chasing a target. Sri Lanka bowlers bowled well, but Pakistani batsmen were too ordinary with their technique in the 2nd T20I.
Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam fell cheaply. After 2.1 overs, Pakistan were 11/2 with both openers back in the hut. Sarfraz came into bat at No.4 and showed some intent. But, in the eighth over. Wanindu Hasaranga ripped through the Pakistani batting line-up. He picked up three wickets in 4 balls to leave Pakistan in all sorts of trouble.
The comeback boys, Ahmed Shehzad, and Umar Akmal could not get going once again. Ahmed Shehzad scored a struggling 13 runs off 16 balls. Umar Akmal, the man with the most disastrous comeback, bagged back to back golden ducks. Wanindu Hasaranga’s googly undid both of them. Sarfraz Ahmad, on the last ball of the same over, failed to pick another googly and perished for 15 balls 26.
Imad Wasim and Asif Ali got some runs going for Pakistan with 70-odd runs partnership, but they never looked like getting there. Imad Wasim, though, played brilliantly for his 29 balls 47. After he fell to a full delivery by Isuru Udana, Pakistan bundled out for 147/all-out in 19 overs.
For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Pradeep was exceptional with both new and old ball. He picked up four wickets for 25 runs in his four overs. Rajitha was, once again, economical. He went for 11 runs in his three overs. He picked up one scalp. The duo of wrist spinners, Wanindu Hasaranga and Sandakan, went for 38 runs each in their four overs quota. Hasaranga picked up three wickets in the eighth over that proved to be a match-winning for Sri Lanka. Lakshan Sandakan picked up two scalps.
Man Of The Match
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who was playing his 2nd T20I, played a brilliant knock. He scored 77 runs off just 48 balls with four 4s and six 6s. Rajapaksa won the man of the match for his sparkling knock.
