Sourav Ganguly won’t let Test cricket die: Shoaib Akhtar opposes 4-days Test

Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has rubbished the idea of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reduce Test cricket to 4-days from onwards ICC Test Championship 2023. Akhtar put his weight behind Sourav Ganguly, who is the president of the Board Of Control Of Cricket In India (BCCI).

Shoaib Akhtar believes the International Cricket Council (ICC) can’t roll out any change in either format of cricket without a nod from BCCI, and Sourav Ganguly won’t let it happen.

Shoaib Akhtar posted a video on his YouTube channel, stating, “The idea to play four-day Test match is rubbish, and no one should be interested in it. BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly is an intelligent man and he will not let this happen. He will not let Test cricket die.”

The legendary fast-bowler said,” The ICC cannot implement a four-day Test without BCCI’s approval. I want more people from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India to come forward and raise their voice against it. I want legendary cricketers from my country to voice their opinion.”

Australia’s twin World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting didn’t like the idea to tweak the purest format of the game. The former Aussie skipper, in an interview with said,” I am not too keen on changing “something’s that’s not badly broken. I’m against it, but I’d like to hear from the people who are pushing it what the major reason is.”

India skipper and one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era, Virat Kohli, also opposed the idea to reduce Test cricket to 4-days.

Virat Kohli, before the 1st T20I between India and Sri Lanka, said,” According to me, it should not be altered. As I said, the day-night is another step towards commercialising Test cricket and you know, creating excitement around it, but it can’t be tinkered with too much. I don’t believe so.”
