Pakistan U19 started World Cup 2020 campaign with a thumping win over the weak Scotland U19 in Potchefstroom today. Mohammad Wasim Jnr was the man of the day for green shirts.
Scotland U19 decided to bat 1st against Pakistan U19 after winning the toss. Pakistan pacers were all over the Scotland batting line-up from the very first bowl.
Syed Shah (20) and Tom Mackintosh (17) were the only batsmen to achieve the double-figure in Scotland U19 side, and that pretty much sums up the story of the game. Scotland managed to score 75/10 in 23.5 overs.
For Pakistan U19, Mohammad Wasim Jnr was brilliant with the ball as he picked up five wickets for 12 runs in 7.2 overs. Tahir Hussain (3/23) and Abbas Afridi (2/33) did rest to blow away Scotland U19 batting line-up.
In the chase, Pakistan U19 lost a couple of early wickets, but skipper Rohail Nazir (27) and Irfan Khan (38*) made sure that Pakistan achieves the target without any drama. Men in green reached the destination with seven wickets in hands and 38.2 overs to spare.
For Scotland U19, Charlie Pee, Liam Naylor, and Kess Sajjad picked up one wicket each. Mohammad Wasim Jnr, for his brilliant bowling, won the man of the match award.
Pakistan U19 has started the ICC U19 World Cup 2020 with positive intent. The boys are set to face Zimbabwe U19 on January 22 in their 2nd game of the tournament.
