Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee for not considering him to the team after consistent performances in domestic cricket.
Kamran Akmal, who last represented Pakistan back in 2017, has spoken out against the chief selector Misbah Ul Haq and the former head coach Mickey Arthur.
The wicketkeeper-batsman was once again sidelined when Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh.
The opening batsman finished as one of the top run-scorer in this year’s Quaid E Azam trophy. Representing Central Punjab, Kamran scored 906 runs at an average of 60.40 with three fifties and as many centuries in the competition. He is also the leading run-scorer in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) history.
Kamran Akmal lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee. He said, “Will I have to go to India or Australia to be considered? I feel that going to Prime Minister Imran Khan is the only option left for me since the current selection committee isn’t rewarding meritocracy.”
The wicketkeeper-batsman pointed out his performances to justify why did he deserve to make a comeback.
Should I go and perform in India or Australia: Kamran Akmal
As quoted by the Indian Express, Kamran said, “I don’t lose heart, but there is a limit. It’s been five years, you have brought a new system which will have the best quality, best talent and whoever performs will automatically be considered. Should I go and perform in India or Australia to be considered?”
He continued,” I am Pakistan’s player, I have been performing for 5 years, how much should I tolerate it? Should I go to the Prime Minister and say this is my performance for 5 years? If there’s someone who is playing ahead of me with fantastic performances, that’s fine. I said, play me as a wicketkeeper if needed.”
Kamran Akmal said that it was injustice with someone like him and Fawad Alam, who also has been one of the top performers in Pakistan domestic cricket, but is yet to get a chance to make a comeback.
Kamran Akmal said,
“In T20, there is a spot available, but you are forcefully playing someone else. This is Pakistan’s team, keep Pakistan in front. If someone is performing, they should be picked. There are many players like me who are deserving, like Fawad Alam, look at his performances. I think his limit has also been reached. Am I talking without performances?”
The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman criticized the former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur for introducing the ‘Yo-Yo Test’ as the selection criteria.
He said, “The examples are all in front of us. Shoaib Akhtar, Inzi Bhai, Yousuf Bhai, they would be hiding in the field. Inzi Bhai was a great slip catcher. Shoaib Bhai would only bowl, he won you matches. Do you think we are crazy? They are making cricketers go crazy now.”
