Mushfiqur Rahim’s scintillating fifty helped Bangladesh beat India in the 1st T20I by seven wickets in pollution-hit Dehli. This was Bangladesh’s first-ever win in T20Is against India in 9 matches they have played against.
Bangladesh were down morally after their captain and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was banned from all forms of cricket for two years by International Cricket Council (ICC). They were being considered the weaker side in the series, but Bangladesh proved the cricket pundits wrong with the stellar show in the first T20I against India.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh asked India to bat 1st. The hosts struggled to get going against the Bangladeshi bowling. Shikhar Dhawan (41 off 42 balls) and Rishabh Pant (27 off 26) balls were the batsmen to take India beyond 140. Krunal Pandya (15 off 8 balls) and Washington Sundar (14 off 5 balls) played a little cameo to take India 148/6 in 20 overs.
Shafiul Islam and Aminul Islam were the picks of the bowlers for Bangladesh as they picked two wickets each. Afif Hussain chipped in with a wicket as well.
In the chase, Mushfiqur Rahim made sure to take Bangladesh over the line. The senior batsman scored an unbeaten 60 off 43 balls with eight 4’s and a six.
Mohammad Naim (26 off 28 balls) and Soumya Sarkar (39 off 35 balls) supported the former captain well in the start and middle of the chase. Bangladesh’s new skipper in T20I Mahmudullah, stepped in with Mushfiqur to score 40 runs off just 15 balls to turn the tables. Bangladesh reached the target with seven wickets in hand and three balls to spare.
Bangladesh Breaks The Shatters Against India In T20Is
This was Bangladesh’s first-ever win in T20Is against India in 9 matches. Only Zimbabwe took as much as nine games to register their first win in this format of the game against a particular opponent, Afghanistan.
Bangladesh will take on India in the 2nd T20I of the series on November 7 in Rajkot. The visitors are leading the three-match series 1-0 at present.
