Babar Azam rejoins Somerset for 2020 stint

Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has rejoined Somerset Cricket Club for the 2020 season. The No. 1 T20 batsman will represent Somerset in Vitality Blast T20 2020 and two four-day matches.

Babar, who was part of Somerset in 2019, aggregated 578 runs at an average of 52.54 and a strike rate of almost 150. Although his side failed to make it to the quarter-finals of Vitality Blast T20 2019, Babar Azam finished the tournament as a leading run-scorer.

The star batsman scored 578 runs in the tournament with four half-centuries and a 55-ball hundred. He, along with Tom Banton, took their team to great starts in almost every game. Banton, his opening partner, finished as the 2nd highest run-getter.

The Somerset Cricket Club has resigned the supreme batsman for the 2020 season. According to the media reports, Babar Azam will play a complete season of Vitality Blast T20 but will be available for only two four-day matches.

Somerset Cricket announced Babar Azam’s conclusion via their official Twitter handle, stating,” Babar Azam will be returning for the Vitality Blast T20 season 12, and two county championship matches this summer. Welcome back to Somerset Babar Bhai!”

The 12th edition of Vitality Blast T20 will kick start from 28 May 2020, and the final will take place on 5 September 2020.
