Pakistan cricket team and the current limited-overs skipper, Babar Azam, continue to sit at the top of the chart in the latest ICC men’s T20I rankings updated on January 10.
Pakistan had a forgettable year in their most preferred format, winning alone T20I out of ten matches they played in 2019. That lonely win too came against South Africa in the dead rubber when the series had already gone South Africa’s way.
Still, Pakistan occupies the No.1 position in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) men’s T20I teams ranking, largely thanks to the consistent performances in the shortest format for the last couple of years.
In the latest ICC T20I team rankings, Men In Green are leading the table with 270 points. Australia sits at the 2nd spot with 269 points.
England (265), South Africa (262), and India (260) are following Pakistan and Australia with close margins.
Pakistan claimed the number one spot in ICC T20I rankings back in 2017. Since then, Men In Green have not looked back in a particular format.
In the updated ICC T20I batting rankings, Pakistan sensation Babar Azam stands firm on the top spot with 879 points. Aaron Finch is 2nd in the list with 810 points. The difference between Babar Azam and Aaron Finch’s ratting tells how good Babar Azam has been in the T20 format.
In bowling, Pakistan’s young leg-spinner Shadab Khan and all-rounder Imad Wasim are sitting at the 8th and 3rd spot regularly. None of the Pakistan all-rounders made it to the top 10 in the updated ICC T20I rankings.
Pakistan’s next T20I assignment is to take on Bangladesh in the home grounds. However, Bangladesh is yet to make the final decision regarding the Pakistan tour.
