Pakistan’s Aizaz Cheema calls off red-ball cricket

Pakistan’s medium-pacer Aizaz Cheema has announced retirement from first-class cricket following Quaid-E-Azam Trophy win.

Aizaz Cheema last time appeared in the final of Quaid-E-Azam Trophy 2019-20, representing Central Punjab (CP) against Northern. His side, Central Punjab (CP) defeated Northern in the final by an innings and 16 runs to clinch the trophy.

Sargodha-born, Aizaz, made his debut in 2001. He picked up 572 wickets in 140 matches at an average of 20. He claimed five wickets haul 38 times and ten wickets haul 11 times in his extraordinary career.

Aizaz also represented Pakistan in seven Tests, 14 ODIs and five T20Is, claiming 20 wickets in Tests, 23 wickets in ODIs and eight wickets in T20Is.

One of his remarkable performances came against Bangladesh in the final of Asia Cup 2014 when he defended seven runs in the last over to win the title for Pakistan.
